Choice Dialer

Fast, hands-free voice control for Android.

Please use Choice Dialer's feedback function (under menu) or email me if you're having problems. I truly will try to help.

If you see a bug not on this list, please try updating to the latest Choice Dialer before reporting it. It may already be fixed.

Bugs

  1. v1.6.5 introduced a bug that makes the Help menu function go to Settings. I will fix this in 1.6.6 -- in the meantime, please use the voice "Help" command.
  2. Users of "Choice Dialer+" (the new Android 2.x version) should uninstall the original "Choice Dialer" app to avoid conflicts regarding launch buttons, Shake-and-Talk, and related issues. You are entitled to a refund on your original purchase when you buy the new app.
  3. Some Samsung phones (esp. Moment) have trouble opening the microphone. Some users succeed by uninstalling and reinstalling or by restarting their phone. Let me know.
  4. Choice Dialer may not see contacts sunc from outside sources such as Outlook unless they are set up to "aggregate". A workaround you can consider is to export such contacts on a computer file and import them into Gmail's web interface. I will explore a means of eliminating this restriction.
  5. MotoBLUR phones MB200 and MB300 have unusual music players I am not familiar with. I'd like to hear from a user who can spend some time helping me learn more about it. In the meantime, bTunes (Android 1.6 or Android 2.x) and "Cubed" should work fine. A control on the Settings panel allows you to select the one you prefer to use.

Issues

  1. Choice Dialer may not notice a newly created contact or song or album until the sync button is pressed. This is a design choice, as syncing is a slow operation. Users should press sync when they want to be sure Choice Dialer's information is up-to-date.
  2. If you are running "Choice Dialer+", ensure that you have uninstalled "Choice Dialer", or your use of launch buttons and Shake-and-Talk may invoke the wrong app.
  3. You cannot call contacts at their custom-named places, only the stock ones (home, work, mobile, other)
  4. Times of day can only be said in 5 minute intervals. For example, 12:31 is not a time you can say to Choice Dialer. I think I will leave this as is, as the recognition is stronger this way.
  5. Integers (such as when you say how many hours later an event is scheduled for) are limited to 50. That is, you cannot say "Schedule an event in 75 days".
  6. Some users complain about poor speech recognition. I use the speech recognizer built into the Android phones, but there are some practices users can apply to improve performance: Users must make sure they are speaking in the proper command format, have full names for their contacts (not just short first names) and have tried speaking at different distances from their phone.
  7. The dictation feature is not complete. Specifically, I intend to make text messaging fully hands-free as an option.
  8. I don't like that triggers (e.g.: Bluetooth button) that wake the phone make the screen active by default, and leave it "hot" after the call is placed and ended.
  9. I don't like that "Open (app name)" does NOT keep the screen awake if woken from sleep.
  10. There should be option to have the person being called spoken if it was not confirmed immediately before
  11. There should be options for when the alarm will sound when scheduling events
  12. It would be nice if any music play that is paused for a voice command could be resumed afterward (unless a call were started).
